Dr. Leo W. Bertley Memorial Scholarships
This years series of scholarships are the Dr. Leo W. Bertley Memorial Scholarships. Dr. Bertley exemplified excellence in education. Amongst his many academic achievements he attained 7 University degrees from 4 different universities including a Bachelor of Peadagogy from the University of Montreal and a Doctor of Philosophy from Concordia University.
Dr. Bertley exuded charisma and confidence which he unfailingly used to obtain rights and create a better society in Quebec and Canada for all its people. He was a highly sought after international lecturer whose erudition and expertise was second to none as well as a ground breaking author in the field of Canadian History. An extremely generous man, Dr. Bertley donated much of his fortune and time to the eradication of world injustice.
In keeping with his generous and unselfish character he conceived of the Garvey institute and along with his wife, family and close friends of like mind, the Garvey Institute Montreal was born. In keeping with Dr. Bertley's strong social conscience and academic achievement The Garvey Institute Montreal is pleased to offer these scholarships which proudly bear his name.
The winners of these scholarships must demonstrate high academic standing. In addition, they must have contributed to the community unselfishly and consistently. It is this winning combination that most exemplifies the distinguished career of Dr. Leo W. Bertley.
To apply for one of these scholarships please download the application form and submit it completed, within the prescribed deadlines. The deadline is Friday July 18, 2008.
Each scholarship award is $2000.00. The following categories are 1. Education, 2. Arts, 3. Sciences and Mathematics, 4. Engineering and Computer Science, 5. Business Administration.
